English: Built predominately in the early 20th Century, this collection of buildings demonstrates the general commercial character of the Grand Center neighborhood’s remaining historic urban fabric, dating to a period when the neighborhood transitioned from a fashionable residential district into a more heavily commercialized and less affluent area, as affluent residents moved further west and the resulting growth of areas further to the west drew more heavy traffic to the area between Downtown St. Louis and areas like the West End, University City, and Forest Park, which generated a lot of traffic on east-west corridors prior to the construction of the city’s extensive freeway system in the mid-20th Century. The buildings are contributing structures in the Midtown Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
