| Description |
English: Wartime (?) building near Dunham-on-the-Hill. Seen from Rake Lane, west of Dunham-on-the-Hill and south of the Shell Stanlow refinery (just visible in the distance). The peaceful meadows hereabouts are peppered with widely separated four-square brick buildings like this, about half of them buried or half-buried in earthworks. Some kind of relic of less peaceful times? Strategic oil or explosives storage? Camouflaged tank shelters? Anyone have any ideas? Rake Lane is now only in small part a public footpath but is under investigation by Cheshire County Council for reopening as a circular public route from Dunham. SJ4673 |
