Deutsch: Trauernde an einem namenlosen Grab auf dem Alten Friedhof Bonn; die in Merzig hergestellte Kunststein-Figur stammt aus einer Serienproduktion der Firma Villeroy & Boch; nach Auskunft der Leiterin des Keramikmuseums Mettlach hat der Modelleur und Zeichner Christian Warth (1836 – 1890) aus Birkenfeld die Trauernde entworfen. Die Figur wurde in den Jahren 1884 bis Ende der 1920er repliziert und auch nach Übersee geliefert. Kopien der Trauernden stehen u.a. auf dem Friedhof in Birkenfeld, dem Friedhof Ohlsdorf in Hamburg, dem Johannisfriedhof in Bielefeld, dem Poppelsdorfer Friedhof in Bonn, dem Burgfriedhof in Bad Godesberg, dem Bergfriedhof in Heidelberg und auf dem Alten Südfriedhof München. Die trauernde Gestalt trägt Mohnkapseln im Haar (als Symbol des Schlafes und des Todes) und einen Eibenkranz in der Rechten (die immergrüne Eibe ist ein Symbol des ewigen Lebens). Die Geste, den Kopf in die offene Hand zu schmiegen, hat berühmte Vorbilder: die Dacia Capta (eine römische Personifikation des eroberten Daciens, des heutigen Rumäniens) auf einem Relief unterhalb der Roma Cesi, einer Kolossalstatue in den Kapitolinischen Museen Rom, und Walther von der Vogelweide im Codex Manesse. |
