Description

Warren Smith is a retired businessman who, for 30 years had a career in regeneration and redevelopment, throughout North West England, particularly the Ordsall area of Salford, but his voluntary career has been the driving force throughout his adult life.

A JP since 1983, a Deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester in 1995, High Sheriff 1997-98 and The Lord-Lieutenant, representing HM The Queen in Greater Manchester since June 2007.

Previous offices have included Chairman of the Free Trade Hall; the Millennium Quarter Trust (URBIS); Chairman of the charity Turning Point; Deputy Chairman of Mental Health Services of Salford (NHS Trust); member of Greater Manchester Police Policy Committee on Drug Misuse; and member of an advisory panel which raised £6M to refurbish Ordsall Hall.

Current roles include being Chairman of the £1m Appeal for Salford Lads Club, and Patron of the Together Trust Appeal and President of the Seashell Trust - these two organisations focus on education, communication and training for young people with profound communication, learning and physical disabilities.

A carer himself at age 12, he is Patron of the Princess Royal Trust for Carers Manchester, as well as Hon. Col. of the Army Cadets, and President of the Air Cadets.

Warren is also patron/president of over 35 organisations and charities with a particular focus on empowering and respecting the contribution of young people.
