e is president of the Beverly Savings Bank, Beverly, Massa-chusetts, Director of the First National Bank, of Boston, of theBeverly National Bank of the Quincy Market Cold Storage &Warehouse Company, of the Eastern Manufacturing Company,Bangor, Maine, and of the Clinton Wire Cloth Company, Boston. He came to Washington November, 1917, to take charge ofenforcement cases for the Distribution Division. This worksoon assumed such great importance that the Enforcement Divi-sion was founded, of which he was the head. As Hoovers Hangman he became the most popular execu-tioner in the United States, and even those who were requiredto pay the penalty for misdeeds, acknowledged the fairnesswhich at all times characterized the activity of this branch of theFood Administration. He is a member of the Bar Association of Boston, and of theHarvard, Exchange and Home CJubs of that city. His business address is 60 State Street, Boston, and his homeaddress 12 Washington Street, Beverly, Massachusetts.

171 MAX A. CHRISTOPHER Max A. Christopher was born at Warrensburg, Missouri, in1878. He received a business education and entered the employ-ment of Aultman & Taylor Machinery Company, of Kansas City,in 1898, remaining with that company five years. In 1904, hepurchased an interest in the Warrensburg Wholesale GroceryCompany of Warrensburg, Missouri, and became Secretary of theCompany. In 1908 he organized and became President and man-ager of the Christopher-Thurber Grocery Company of Trenton,Missouri. A few years later he organized another grocery com-pany under the name of the Jennings-Christopher Grocery Com-pany of Centerville, Iowa, also becoming President of this com-pany. He became associated with Mr. McCoy in the Report SectionMarch 1, 1918, and continued in the work of examining reportstill the jobbers reports were discontinued in July of the sameyear. He then entered the Field Supervision work, and renderedvaluable service in that connection. He is a member of the Riversi
