English: War Memorial Cross in St Woolos Cemetery, Newport.
Located near the main entrance to the cemetery from Bassaleg Road. The inscription on one side of the base is TO THE HONOURED MEMORY OF ONE HUNDRED AND NINETY SEVEN SAILORS AND SOLDIERS WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY DURING THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918 OF WHOM ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY NINE LIE HERE AND FORTY EIGHT IN CHRISTCHURCH CEMETERY BOTH IN THE COUNTY BOROUGH OF NEWPORT MON. THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE. |
