| Description |
English: War Graves Plot. On the edge of ex-RAF Coltishall (the last surviving operational RAF airbase from WWII, closed in 2006), surrounded by fields still accommodating the now redundant landing aids, ground was set aside by the Scottow Parish Council for burials from the station in 1939. Closed again in 1943 due to a shortage of space, nearly 60 casualties of various nationalities are commemorated on the site. After the war a Cross of Sacrifice (seen in mid-distance)was erected in the eastern section of the plot. See > 752872 for detail. A tiny, brick-built cemetery chapel stands not far distant from the entrance > 752863. A red light to alert aircraft to its existence is still affixed to its roof. |
