English: shengsheng or xingxing (狌狌), "live-lively"[1] resembles a yu 禺 long-tailed ape but has white ears, according to Nan Shan Jiang ("Classic of Southern Mountains"). Said to crouch while walking but runs like humans, and eating it imparts quick-running ability.[2][1] Dwells on Mount Zhaoyao 招摇之山 "Raiseshake", the first peak of Queshan 鵲山 range[3] or Mount Magpie [range].[1] The Bencao Gangmu describes it as resembling a dog or [rhesus] macaque 獼猴, has yellow fur like the yuan 猨 ape, and white ears like a pig.[4] For the migu tree which occurs in the same mountain, cf. this file 中文(繁體):《山海經巻一.南山經》“招摇之山..有獸焉其狀如禺而白耳,伏行人走其名曰狌狌食之善走,” |
