English: Waltham Cross: The Eleanor Cross Erected by King Edward I in 1294, the cross is one of the only three surviving of the twelve that marked the resting places of the body of his wife, Queen Eleanor, when it was taken from Harby in Nottinghamshire, where she died in December 1290, to Westminster Abbey. The cross is now in a pedestrianized zone at the junction of Eleanor Cross Road with the High Street. |
