English: Manzanar, California June 1942. Walter T. Watanabe, rubber project foreman, examining two specimens of guayule, rubber-bearing desert shrub, in various stages of growth. In his left arm, Watanabe holds a matured 24-year-old shrub and in his right arm, a two-year-old plant which is in bloom. The blooms will be used in cross pollination in experiments to improve the rubber content of guayule. |
