| Description |
English: Walsham Gates, Wey Navigation. This shows that Walsham Gates actually constitute a flood lock, and a unique flood lock in fact, being the only turf-sided lock on the Wey. Normally the gates are open at both ends, but after heavy rain the top gates (the furthest ones away in this photograph) can be closed so that more of the water coming down the river will be diverted into the long side stream which begins just above here, through the overflow shown in 621660. |
