Summary
[edit]DescriptionWalled mere and stone troughs - geograph.org.uk - 726886.jpg |
English: Walled mere and stone troughs These man-made meres are common in the Peak District and were built to catch rainwater which would otherwise be quickly lost through the porous limestone. In addition to the stone troughs, this mere is walled in order to keep passing livestock out, or perhaps it also doubled up as a pinfold. |
