Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Perhaps it is timely to review these posters on the concrete trackside box near to Drei Annen Hohne, posted for the election six weeks previously on 18 March 1990 which led to the election of a non-communist government in the GDR. The right hand one says stop PDSDPDSEDPDSDP etc., i.e. the the new left party of the GDR, the PDS, the former SED or Communist Party of the DDR as well as the centre-left and rather ineffective SPD of West Germany are bracketed together. These posters are for the DEMOKRATISCHER AUFBRUCH or Democratic Awakening in English, with the following exhortations to vote for the CDU perhaps.
EHRLICHE ARBEIT
GUTES GELD
SOZIALE SICHERHEIT
SICHERE UMWELT
FÜR ALLE.
The stop sign is reminiscent of the Co-operative Retail Society's Stop and Shop stores in the 1980s.
Angela Merkel was a member of the Demokratischer Aufbruch, which later fused with the CDU/CSU, the organisation having started out with a socialist agenda.
More about the DA here in German.
The DA received 0.9 per cent of the vote (poor show) whist the CDU received 40 per cent.
