The story is beauti-ful and compelling, the situations by turnthrilling and pathetic, while the glorious musicwritten by the master to accompany the ad-ventures of his mythical personages is easilyunderstood and appreciated by the averagelistener. Wotan has been warned by Erda, theEarth Goddess, that if Alberich regains the Ringthe gods must perish.
