Summary

[edit]
Description The Waco Aircraft Company produced a series of popular civilian biplanes during the 1920s and 30s in the USA. In 1935 they introduced the Waco YMF which features an open cockpit for two passengers, ahead of the pilot’s cockpit. New Zealand display pilot Keith Skilling has imported a 1988 model of the Waco YFM which he considers a delightful aircraft to fly. It is fully aerobatic and with its 275hp radial engine can reach 214 mph (440kph). The two side-by-side front passenger seats make it an ideal aircraft for joy rides, he says. The bright red WACO ATO “Taperwing” biplane is owned and flown by Marty Cantlon and is a reproduction made in USA in the early 1990s. It has a distinctively shaped top wing, tapering from the centre to the wing tips, unlike the mostly straight-winged aircraft of 1929.
