Description
English: Cet équipage canadien d'un char Sherman se repose avant la bataille au Sud de Caen.(May sur Orne, Verrières)

28 juillet 1944, le Sherman V " Clanky " du commandant du Squadron C le Major Dave Currie (VC.), du 29th Reconnaissance Regiment (The South Alberta Regiment) de la 4th Canadian Armoured Division. Le major Currie esy en p011087: www.flickr.com/search/?w=58897785@N00&q=p011087 De g à d, Tp G Holstrom, Cpl J Lardner et Tp D Mitchell. Le Clanky sera détruit le 28 octobre 44 à Bergen op Zoom, par un obus de 5.5 Gun canadien tombé trop court sur la plage arrière du char! Les trois hommes présents sur cette photo seront sains et saufs y compris Currie, mais l'obus tuera plusieurs hommes présents autour du char. Cette photo fera la couverture du magazine "Liberty" le 16 décembre 1944. A cette date, le 28 juillet, la division qui vient de débarquer à Arromanches n'a pas encore été engagée, elle relève la 3rd Canadian Inf. Div. dans la nuit du 30 au 31 juillet, et elle le sera le 8 août dans Operation Totalize. Grâce à cette photo : www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205202458 que nous avons localisé, boulevard Leroy, voir ici : goo.gl/maps/ipSLs nous pouvons localiser la p004602 au même endroit.
