English: Cypher telegram informing the Gouvernment of the Great-Duchy of Baden about the immediate outbreak of World War I.
Deutsch: Original-Bildunterschrift: Chiffriertes Telegramm des badischen Gesandten Sigismund Graf von Berckheim aus Berlin an die großherzogliche Regierung am 31. Juli 1914 um 21.45 Uhr: Nach der russischen Mobilmachung gegen Österreich habe Deutschland zwei Ultimaten an Russland und Frankreich gestellt. England habe das deutsche Neutralitätsangebot abgelehnt. Das Verhalten von Italien und Rumänien bleibe unklar. – Der Weltkrieg begann.

Mitteilung Auswärtigen Amtes um 6 Uhr: Österreich hat Vermittlungsvorschläge mit hinweis auf russische Mobilmachung abgelehnt. Deutschland hat Rußland aufgefordert, binnen zwölf stunden Mobilmachung einzustellen, widrigenfalls Deutschland mobilmachen wuerde. Frankreich ist um antwort binnen achtzehn stunden gebeten worden, ob es sich neutral verhalten wolle. an ablehnender antwort seitens Rußland und Frankreich besteht kein zweifel. England ist erneut Neutralitätsvertrag angeboten worden, den Grey abgelehnt hat. stellung Italiens und Rumäniens noch unklar, aber hoffnung, dass Italien beim Dreibund, Rumänien neutral bleibt. = berckheim.+
