Description
English: Cast copper-alloy Roman brooch of Colchester derivative Polden Hill (flat wing ends type, West Midlands) type, cf. Mackreth 2011, 4.c. Plate 46 . Mass: 8.1g; length: 33.5mm; width: 18.8mm; depth: 14.7mm. T-shaped in plan with a rearward facing hook on the head. The side-wings are semi-cylindrical, with pierced end caps holding the copper-alloy axial rod. Corroded traces of the iron spring remain. There are moulded plates on the side of the head and there is a notched and grooved median decoration running down the front of the head and bow, with an incomplete ?triangular grooved decoration towards the corroded and incomplete base of the brooch. The brooch has a green/brown patina, but areas have been lost, leaving a pitted, lighter green surface in parts.
