Title
WMID-C98056: Post Medieval: Double loop asymmetrical buckle frame and pin
Description
English: A complete cast copper alloy double loop asymmetrical buckle frame and pin, of Post Medieval dating (AD 1575 to AD 1700).

The buckle frame is sub trapezoidal in plan, and has a narrowed strap bar. Engraved transverse lines are present on the upper edges of the frame. The pin is present and consists of a double tongued sheet metal pin, wrapped around the strap bar. The reverse of the buckle is plain and undecorated.

The buckle measures 32.17 mm in length, 24.17 mm wide and 4.85 mm thick. It weighs 4.0 grams.

The buckle is a mid brown to mid green colour, with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.

A similar buckle frame has been published as #568 in Whitehead (1996, p91) and has been dated to the Post Medieval Period (c. AD 1575 to AD 1700).
