WMID-9F93E7. Medieval buckle (front, reverse)
Description
English: Cast-copper-alloy buckle frame. Medieval. Mass: 3.3g; width: 17.1mm; length: 20.8mm; thickness: 4.6mm. Frame has slightly convex sides with a ridge near each corner; thick outside edge with a central filed pin-rest on the front with two filed grooves to either side; bar offset and narrowed; traces of a possible white-metal coating, particularly on the reverse of the outside edge. Cf. no. 439, "Dress Accessories 1150-1450", Egan and Pritchard, 2002, p. 96 and fig. 61, although no. 439 has a plate (from a context dated c.1350-c.1400).
