Title |
WMID-9C6F11. Roman hinged Colchester derivative brooch (front, profile) |
||
Description |
English: Cast copper-alloy Colchester derivative brooch, possibly of hinged Polden Hill type. Mass: 15.6mm; length: 38.0mm; width: 28.3mm; depth: 17mm. The brooch is T-shaped in profile. There is a vertical slot in the reverse of the head – for the hinged pin which is missing. The side wings have a circular sectioned channel running through them for the axis bar which would have held the pin. Due to surface conditions, it is unclear how much, if any of this rod remains. There is some evidence of mouldings / decoration on one side of the head. The tapering bow has a sub-circular cross-section, and there is a ridge running down the lower portion of the reverse – the remains of the catchplate. |
