Van de drie bokjespringende weesjongens, wijst één van hen mogelijk symbolisch naar het vernieuwde gebouw. In het midden staan de "weesvader" en de "weesmoeder", verantwoordelijk voor de opvoeding en verzorging. De figuur links is mogelijk de "binnenvader" die de algemene leiding van het weeshuis in handen had. Vaak was zijn vrouw de "binnenmoeder" en was er altijd één van de twee aanwezig in het complex. Om de kleding te beschermen droegen zowel mannen als vrouwen, vaak een boezelaar, een voorschoot. De kleding van de wezen ziet er rijk uit, de zg. burgerweeshuizen waren dan ook alleen bestemd voor wezen die uit goed bedeelde families en gezinnen kwamen, en met hun erfdeel werd dan ook hun verblijf bekostigd.
