Description |
Nederlands: Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890)
The cottage (detail), 1885 House of local peasants in Nuenen, the place where his parents lived and his father was a village pastor. Having spent two lonely months in Drenthe, in the north of the Netherlands, Van Gogh moved to Nuenen in December 1983. The cottage in this painting accommodates two semi-detached dwellings. It is partially made of daub and the roof is thatched. This type of building was on the verge of disappearing from the countryside, which is why Van Gogh chose to record it.
