Nederlands: Batak Wichelboek En Toverstaven (A-1389)
hout, boombast. Toba - Batak (volk), Noord Sumatra, Indonesië. ca.1850. Een van de oudste Batak wichelboeken. De tekst is geschreven op boombast bladeren en gaat over magie en waarzeggerij. Het dier bovenop is waarschijnlijk Naga Padoha, de mythische vrouwelijke slang uit de oerwateren. Haar bewegingen brachten aarde naar het wateroppervlak en zo ontstond de wereld. One of the eldest Batak books used for augury and sorcery. The text is written on treebark and is about sorcery and fortune-telling. The animal on top is probably Naga Padoha, the mythical female snake from the ancient waters. Her movements brought the earth to the surface of the water and thus the world came into being.
