The Sikorsky S-52 first flew in February 1947. 93 were built, of which 79 were the HO5S-1 variant for the US Navy. The US Marines used them in Korea for medical evacuation and this rare example wears the genuine markings of Marine Observation Squadron 6 (VMO-6), who operated it during the conflict. It was donated to the Smithsonian Institute in 2007 and is seen on display in the Steven F. Udvar Hazy Center as part of the National Air and Space Museum.
