ICH STEHE ALHIR IN GOT//TES HANDT DER BEWAHRE//MICH WEITERM BRANDT AN//GOTTES SEGEN IST ALLES GE//LEGEN DEN 10 DECEMBER 1678.

Der in der Inschrift geäußerte Wunsch, von Gott vor einem weiteren Brand bewahrt zu werden, erklärt sich aus der Tatsache, dass in diesem Jahr 1678, auf dessen 10. Dezember die Inschrift datiert ist, ein Großbrand den Ortskern Wülfraths mit über 70 Häusern in die sprichwörtlichen Schutt und Asche gelegt hatte.
