The lithograph depicts 'Astrolabe' and 'Zelee' on the icy waters of Antarctica. 'Astrolabe' is shown in the foreground and 'Zelee' in the distance. 'Astrolabe' seems to get ready to depart and join 'Zelee'.

Inscribed: "LES CORVETTES SORTANT DE LA BANQUISE LE 9 FEVRIER 1838. Parages Antarctiques". Also inscribed above, "Voyage au Pole Sud et dans L'Oceanie: Atlas Pittoresque Pl. 25".
