Description Redstone Arsenal received a homemade rocket for testing, but subsequent inspections revealed that it was too dangerous to load or test. Teenager Jimmy Blackmon constructed the 6-foot rocket at his home in Charlotte, North Carolina. Army officials stepped in after the CAA ruled that testing the rocket on a farm near Charlotte might prove dangerous to air travel. Blackmon visited the arsenal on 20 August 1956.
