The Rock relief attributed to Parthian king Vologese, aka Valach or Balach, at Behistun was carved on 3 sides of an isolated rock. This relief is typical of the Parthian pictural art: frontal and static iconography, not deeply cut in the rocky surface. The main character is dressed with typical Parthian dressings, and wears a baggy trouser. Although showing a worshipping scene, the relief is considered as much of the other Parthian representative artifacts as not being really religious. Divinities are not present, religious objects are limited to altars or symbols. A Greek inscription can be seen on the altar allowing the identification of Vologese. The main panel shows Vologese bringing a bowl over an altar with one hand, saluting with the other arm. The signification of the 2 other panels is still questioned: representing either Vologese before and after the main altar scene, or 2 other noblemen watching the scene.
