| Description |
The Voisin III was a successful bomber and ground attack type which first flew in 1914 and was also the first aircraft to shoot down another machine in an aerial battle. Over 1.350 were built and they saw service with many countries including Belgium, France, Italy, Russia and the UK. As no genuine Belgian example exists, the remains of this French machine were acquired in a deal with the ‘Musée de l’Air’ in Paris, where the Voisin fuselage and a complete Caudron G.III were exchanged for a complete but unrestored LVG C.VI. The Voisin is a later LAS variant, but has no known identity. It is on display at what is known as the Brussels Air Museum, although it is actually the Air and Space Section of the Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and Military History.
