La ressemblance qui existe entre cettelégende des hagiographes et le mythe antique de Persée et dAn-dromède fut aperçue dès le moyen âge, et elle est expliquée avecun grand luxe darguments et dérudition par Ruskin et Anderson.Le christianisme, comme on sait, ne pouvant détruire dun couple paganisme, qui avait poussé dans les âmes et dans les coutumesde solides et profondes racines, chercha à se lassimiler par millemoyens.
