Le beau jeune homme qui tient la banderole avec linscriptionest vêtu avec une élégance raffinée : un riche justaucorps et deuxbas de même couleur. Sur la banderole, on lit les lettres : N. L. D.D. W. G. V. I. Ces lettres, selon les règles de lépigraphie, devaientsignifier : Nicolaus Lauretanus donum dédit vivens gloria VirginiInclytae. De nombreux exemples nous montrent que deux V voisins signi-fient vivens ; mais on ne peut citer dun W avec ce sens quunexemple, dans léglise des Servi, publié dans les Iscrizioni deCicogna. Nous avons cru légitime de fonder notre hypothèsesur cet exemple.
