Summary
[edit]DescriptionVitis Spetchley Red - Flickr - peganum (1).jpg |
By the back door. The normal summer colour is green, unlike the popular Purpurea cultivar, which is dark purple all summer. The normal explanation for vivid autumn colours seems to be that as the cool weather and shorter days come along the plant gradually withdraws chlorophyll from the leaves, revealing other pigments in the leaves, prior to discarding them. Are we saying then that this vivid red was somehow hidden behind the green? It doesn't seem very likely. |
