Comme on le voit, ces deux courbes expérimentales tirées du graphe de Beard (1976) et du graphe de Beard et Pruppacher ne sont pas confondues dans cette zone ; c'est de peu d'importance.

Mais pour les plus grosses gouttes, qui sont déformées par les efforts aérodynamiques dus à la vitesse, on est obligé de faire usage de cette sphère équivalente.
Le diamètre qui sert de base au Reynolds est celui de la sphère équivalente (sphère de même volume que la goutte).

On observe qu'à partir du diamètre 2 mm, le des gouttes s'accroît, au lieu de continuer à décroître comme le fait le des sphères rigides de la courbe fuchsia.
Ceci est dû à la déformation des gouttes par les forces aérodynamiques.
Pruppacher et Klett écrivent : "L'observation des gouttes montre qu'elles sont aplaties à leur base à partir du diamètre équivalent 3,5 mm (Reynolds 1965) et même creusée en cette base à partir du diamètre équivalent 4 mm (Reynolds 2325).
