Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Electronics Technician 2nd Class Robert Ford searches the vessel during a Visit, Board, Search and Seizure drill aboard the Ticonderoga-class cruiser USS Antietam. VBSS teams are used to board foreign ships in search of drugs, weapons, and other contraband items. VBSS teams are used to board foreign vessels and help pressurize the maritime environment, which disrupts and deters terrorists from using the sea as a venue or enabler for terrorist activity. Antietam, as part of the USS John C. Stennis Carrier Strike Group, is on a regularly scheduled deployment in support of Maritime Security Operations. MSO help set the conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment, as well as complement the counter-terrorism and security efforts of regional nations. These operations deny international terrorists use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons or other material.
