English: Viscount Samuel Hood (1724-1816)

A full-length portrait to the left, showing Hood in his flag officer’s full dress uniform, 1767–83 pattern, wearing a white toupee and holding a telescope in his left hand. This is an enlarged copy of the Gainsborough in the Ironmongers’ Hall, which was a present from Hood on being admitted to the Company. It was presented to Greenwich Hospital by the Ironmongers’ Company in 1825. Note: not mentioned under Gainsborough in NMM 'Concise Catalogue'.
