Summary
[edit]DescriptionVisayan talibong knife 1.jpg |
English: This antique Filipino sword (probably pre-WW2) is Visayan as evidenced by, (a) the absence of a peened tang, (b) the chisel-ground blade, and (c) the wooden scabbard (Luzon scabbards, except for Cordilleran ones, are almost always made of leather).
The other photo of the sword is here. The styling of the scabbard further points to an eastern Visayas or central Visayas origin of the bolo. In the Visayan dialect, this bolo is commonly called a talibong or talebong (either way, pronounced as tah-LEE-bong, with the 'bong' as in gong). The hilt is made of hardwood. The ferrule is made of weaved rattan. Overall length: 412 mm (16.2 inches); Blade length: 304 mm (12 inches) length; Maximum blade thickness: 7 mm (9/32 inch) Other uploaded materials by the same author on this same bolo plus many others can be found here: (a) Luzon weapons; (b) Visayan weapons; (c) Moro weapons; and (d) Lumad (non-Moro Mindanao) weapons |
