Description
English: Village square and Baptist chapel Smyrna (1824) chapel can be seen beyond the raised triangle (called the square) where there is a memorial to the Welsh poet, Evan Rees (1850-1923) who was born at Bwlchwil in this parish. He started life as a miner before becoming a Calvinistic Methodist minister. He is remembered today as a poet, hymn-writer and bard who won the chair at the International Eisteddfod in Chicago in 1893 under the name Dyfed.
