Summary

[edit]
Description
English: View towards Backley Bottom, Bratley Plain, New Forest Bratley Plain is a gravel-capped plateau, with undulating edges. The path in the foreground has worn through the thin acidic topsoil to reveal the bleached gravel below. Bracken and heather tolerate the well-drained acidic soil, but lower down the slope water seeps out and other species populate the humid and wet heathland of Backley Bottom. The tips of the enormous conifers at Bolderwood can be seen in the distance on the left of this photo.
