Zeroth-order diffraction is seen as a direct transmitted image of a bright yellow-green beam passing through a nanoparticle suspension in the cuvette. First diffraction orders appear as lines to the left and right from zeroth-order diffraction. Each color line in the first order spectrum corresponds to the emission of erbium from its various energy levels. Red line with a maximum at 654 nm originates from transition 4F9/2 → 4I15/2 between the energy levels of Er(III), outermost green line with a maximum at 545 nm - transition 4S3/2 → 4I15/2, green line closest to the center with a maximum at 525 nm - transition 2H11/2 → 4I15/2, and faint blue line with a maximum at 412 nm - transition 2H9/2 → 4I15/2. Nanoparticle suspension in chloroform. Polyethylene terephthalate diffraction grating with 1000 lines/mm. Laser diode with a maximum wavelength 980 nm, power 30 mW.Українська: Погляд через пропускаючу дифракційну гратку на люмінісценцію апконвертуючих наночастинок NaYF4:Yb(III), Er(III) за збудження інфрачервоним світлом.
Нульовий порядок гратки має вигляд прямого зображення яскравого жовтозеленого пучка, що проходить через суспензію наночастинок у кюветі. Перший порядок дифракції має вигляд кольорових ліній по обидва боки від нульового порядку. Кожна кольорова лінія у спектрі першого порядку відповідає випромінюванню з різних енергетичних рівнів ербію (ІІІ). Червона лінія з максимумом на 545 нм походить від переходу 4F9/2 → 4I15/2 між енергетичними рівнями ербію (ІІІ), найвіддаленіша від центру зелена лінія з максимумом на 545 нм - від переходу 4S3/2 → 4I15/2, зелена лінія ближча до центру з максимумом на 525 нм - від переходу 2H11/2 → 4I15/2, і ледь помітна синя лінія із максимумом на 412 нм - від переходу 2H9/2 → 4I15/2. Наночастинки у вигляді суспензії у хлороформі. Дифракційна гратка з поліетилентерефталату, 1000 ліній/мм.
