Summary

[edit]
Description
English: View over fields The field in this photograph is reclaimed, opencast workings. The footpath from The Five Pits Trail (behind the viewpoint) to Hardstoft Road heads toward the fence in the middle distance where is crosses a stile (the three, darker horizontal timbers). After the stile the path crosses the field diagonally toward the house (but not to it) that can just be seen on the right of the photograph.

Although, superficially well reclaimed land with realistic contours, the ground is poor. Drainage is very limited, the ground is hard and during wet weather, substantial amounts of water sit on the surface causing the top inch or so to be very muddy.

To see a more easterly (ahead) photograph of the footpath, click here 339758. To see a photograph of the trail behind the viewpoint, click here 321799.

Note that this section of the footpath does not appear on OS maps. Although modern contours have been added to take into account the change resulting from reclamation (late 1960’s – early 70’s), the footpath marking hasn’t.
