Description |
English: View of the reserve fleet laid up at the U.S. Naval Station San Diego, California (USA), during the 1950s or 1960s. The ships in foreground are mostly minesweepers and escort carriers, seven Commencement Bay-class and four Casablanca-class. Among ships in first row are: USS Chief (MSF-315), USS Competent (MSF-316), USS Defense (MSF-317), USS Zeal (MSF-131) and USS Symbol (MSF-123). The light aircraft carrier in the center background is most probably USS San Jacinto (CVL-30). The photo was probably taken before 1959, when the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea (CV-47) arrived. Zeal was sunk as a target 9 January 1967. |
