Nederlands: Op het kunstwerk staat de voorganger van het Huis met de Paarse Ruiten (Zuidsingel 38) afgebeeld. De ontdekking werd gedaan door Laurens Schoemaker, conservator Historische Topografie van het RKD, die het stadsgezicht op verzoek van het museum onderzocht. De kunstenaar keek vanaf de brug over de Kortegracht ter hoogte van de Muurhuizen naar de huizen aan de Zuidsingel. In 1780 werd het monumentale pand, dat op het schilderij links van de stenen boogbrug te zien is, in opdracht van de Amersfoortse bankier en tabakshandelaar Benjamin Cohen grondig verbouwd en voorzien van een extra verdieping. Schoemaker schrijft het schilderij toe aan de Amsterdamse kunstenaar Jan Ekels (I) (1724-1781).
