English: Photograph of the Prince Albert Victor Leper Asylum at Junagadh, Gujarat, taken by the travelling commercial photographer F. Nelson in the 1890s from the Lee-Warner Collection: 'Photographs of Junagadh'. The asylum is an imposing building probably dating from the later 19th century. It is likely to have been the asylum sited at the bottom of Datar Hill. Also known as Guru Dattatray or Dattatri, the hill is one of five peaks on Mount Girnar, an important Jain pilgrimage site three kilometres east of Junagadh. A small Muslim shrine built on the summit of the hill is associated with Saint Jamial Shah Datar, and was visited by sufferers of leprosy in hope of a cure. This view shows the asylum sited beside a lake or river in the foreground with a mountain peak in the distance. The asylum is built in a hybrid architectural style combining European Gothic and Islamic forms which was used for other civic buildings in Junagadh.
