Description |
English: In 1911, Snoqualmie, Washington, had a population of around 320 people. Located between Snoqualmie Falls and North Bend, the town was a logging, lumber and shingle mill center for the upper Snoqualmie River. Since 1890, the Seattle, Lake Shore & Eastern Railroad had carried the area's hops and wood products to Seattle and other markets. By 1911, insect pests had ended the hop craze. This photographic postcard, postmarked August 23, 1912, shows the town of Snoqualmie with its houses, gardens and commercial buildings and its backdrop of mountains. Written on verso: Message: Dear Mama, Still feeling bum but like the place. Miss you & babies. Walked 2 miles to day sic. Original photographic print (postcard)" ca. 1912. Copied in 1998 by the Museum of History and Industry.
