Medium: Watercolour Date: 1799 Water-colour drawing by Elisha Trapaud of the view of Mysore from Rayakottai, dated 5 March 1799. Inscribed on the back in ink: 'No 9. S.E. view of Mysore from Ryacottah. 5 March, 1799.' Rayakottai was part of a chain of military outposts used by Tipu Sultan’s forces on their campaigns against the British in the Tamil country. This view shows the dramatic hill-country of this area south of Bangalore in the modern-day state of Karnataka. |
