Description |
English: The Grand Trunk Pacific dock was a shipping pier located on the Seattle waterfront at the foot of Marion Street. The largest wooden pier on the West Coast when it opened in 1910, the dock was built atop 5,000 creosote-soaked piles, and constructed using 3,700,000 board feet of lumber. In 1914 the dock was destroyed in a deadly fire, then was rebuilt soon after and stood for almost 50 years. In 1964 the Grand Trunk dock was dismantled for the expansion of Colman Dock, which is now Pier 52, the Seattle terminal of the Washington State Ferry system. This image of the Grand Trunk Pacific dock was taken between 1910-1914, before it was destroyed in a fire. The view is from Elliott Bay, taken facing east towards the Seattle waterfront and First Hill beyond.
