Description
עברית: אחת הערים החשובות בצפון ארץ ישראל בעת העתיקה. היא נזכרת בתנ"ך בשם זה, ובתעודות מחוץ למקרא בשם שמע'ון. היא זוהתה בתל הקרוי בערבית "תל סַ‏מוּ‏נִיֶ‏ה", מתנשא כ-60 מ' מעל סביבתו, הצלע הצפון מזרחית של התל תלולה, והוא משתפל במתינות לכיוון דרום מערב. התל שוכן מצפון-מזרח למושב נהלל, בגבול עמק יזרעאל והגליל התחתון, ליד כביש הכניסה לתמרת.
