Summary
[edit]DescriptionView from Mill Hill - geograph.org.uk - 668633.jpg |
English: View from Mill Hill Mill Hill is the highest part of the Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve run by the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust.
From the information board on the viewpoint: "Here you can see the extensive system of sand dune ridges and strip saltings which has developed rapidly over the last 30 years. The early plant colonists of the dunes are succeeded by scrub of sea buckthorn and elder. A similar succession in the saltmarsh plants takes place as the strip saltings gradually become higher and drier. Beyond the outer dunes, the seashore consists of sand and mud and a large variety of pebbles brought from afar and deposited long ago by glaciers. Out to sea, common seals haul out on the sandbanks which are uncovered at low tide. On a clear day the coast of Norfolk is clearly visible for miles." |
