Description
English: "Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore."

Apologies to the Wizard of Oz but that was my sentiments exactly on arriving in Amman, Jordan. This was unlike any town I had visited. An Arab city, but not opulent like Muscat, in fact a bit rough around the edges, obviously poorer.

The city is coloured with the same beige blush, a consequence of using local stone to clad all the buildings, and except for four very tall buildings going up in the Abdali district the height of the majority of buildings is somewhere between four to six stories.

The hills on which Amman is situated negate any straight road. No grid iron here. Winding, bending roads but the road infrastructure is amazingly flowing. The intersections are a maze of over passes and tunnels but everything keeps moving.
